CHALK & CHEESE
INTERIOR DESIGNÂ -Â SECOND YEAR 2018Â
RESTAURANT
Using the existing two storey and dual function space on Edward St in Brisbane CBD, a restaurant with the inclusion of creative connection was required. With the integration of a highly sensory experience and Slowlab's Slow Design Principles. Chalk & Cheese aims to contradict usual society behaviours by encouraging individuals to socialise on their own and enforcing the interaction of strangers.
The restaurant inspires different walks of life to all come together through the interplay between strangers, and also the community and homeless contribution. Chalk & Cheese aims to create a new restaurant experience where young, lonely city workers can take a break from their monotonous routines to participate as an individual in the interaction and socialisation with other unknown individuals. Resulting in educating Brisbane community in the importance of talking to strangers and being accepting of all people. Including the acceptance of homeless people through bringing awareness to homelessness in Brisbane city. Chalk & Cheese will undertake this education process through the design, materials and sensorial experience. The materials used consists mostly of glass to further educate the clientele about the impact glass waste has on the environment and make them aware of the recycling process.
The menu will continue to inform customers and enrich their learning experience through the origin and the outcome of the dishes. With the menu consisting of glassed alcohol and locally sourced cheese with homemade bread as a cheese platter starter, and warm and cold soups will be served along with fresh bread. Lastly, the desserts served will be a number of sweet soups. The senses will undertake a journey through the design of the restaurant and also the menu.
